현대 설교학자들은 본문 중심 설교를 강조하며 철저한 주해를 성경적 설교의 전제 조건으로 규정한다. 설교자는 반드시 본문에서 출발하여 본문으로 돌아가야 한다는 것이다. 그러나 한국교회의 목회 현실은 이러한 이론적 요청과 상당한 괴리를 보인다. 과도한 설교 횟수, 성서신학에 대한 이해 부족, 해석학적 훈련의 결핍, 성서 비평에 대한 부정적 인식은 설교의 본문 중심성을 약화시키는 주요 요인이다. 그 결과 설교 준비는 깊이 있는 주해보다는 단편적 QT 수준에 머무르기 쉽고 개인적 적용 중심으로 흐르는 경향이 있다. 이러한 흐름은 결국 본문과의 긴장 관계를 상실한 설교, 나아가 복음의 핵심이 약화된 설교를 반복적으로 생산하는 문제를 낳고 있다. 기존 연구들은 이러한 문제를 지적하면서 보다 성실하고 철저한 해석을 요청하지만 구체적인 방법론을 제시하지 못한 채 선언적 수준에 머무르는 한계를 드러낸다. 이에 본 연구는 성경주석서를 설교 준비의 초기 단계부터 활용하는 방안을 하나의 현실적 대안으로 제시한다. 성경주석서는 본문의 역사적 배경과 언어적 의미, 신학적 메시지를 체계적으로 제공함으로써 설교자가 본문을 입체적으로 이해하도록 돕는다. 또한 설교자를 해석 공동체 안으로 이끌어 개인적 해석의 오류를 교정하고, 다양한 신학적 전통 속에서 축적된 해석의 지평을 접하게 한다. 더 나아가 주석서는 설교자의 선이해를 점검하게 하고, 교회사적 논쟁과 검증 과정을 거친 해석을 제공함으로써 설교의 신학적 안정성을 확보하는 데 기여한다. 물론 설교 준비의 초기부터 주석서를 사용하는 것이 설교자가 본문과 직접 씨름하는 과정을 약화시킬 위험이 있다는 점은 분명하다. 그러나 한국적 목회 상황에서 해석 역량이 충분히 형성되지 않은 설교자들에게 주석서는 일종의 해석 훈련 도구로 기능할 수 있으며 이는 비판적 수용을 전제로 할 때 오히려 건강한 해석 습관을 형성하는 데 유익하게 작용할 수 있다. 결국 이는 완전한 방법이라기보다 현실적 한계를 고려한 차선적 대안이지만 왜곡되거나 피상적인 해석과 설교를 반복하는 것보다 더 실제적이고 효과적인 접근이라고 생각된다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 성경주석서 활용법을 통해 한국 강단에서 보다 건강한 성경 해석에 근거한 하나님의 말씀이 선포되고, 이를 통해 한국교회의 미래가 더욱 잘 준비되길 소망한다.

Modern homileticians stress text-centered preaching and view thorough exegesis as essential. Preachers must begin and end with the biblical text. Yet Korean pastoral practice often diverges from this ideal due to heavy preaching loads, weak grounding in biblical theology, limited hermeneutical training, and suspicion toward biblical criticism. As a result, sermon preparation frequently remains at the level of fragmented QT reflection and emphasizes personal application over careful exegesis. This trend produces sermons that lose tension with the text and weaken the core of the gospel. Although prior studies highlight these issues, they tend to remain declarative and lack concrete methods. This study therefore proposes using biblical commentaries from the earliest stage of sermon preparation as a practical alternative. Commentaries provide historical context, linguistic insight, and theological interpretation, enabling a fuller understanding of Scripture. They also connect preachers to the interpretive community, correct individual bias, and expose them to the broader tradition of interpretation. In addition, they help examine pre-understanding and offer interpretations tested through church history, strengthening theological stability. While early reliance on commentaries may risk weakening direct engagement with the text, in the Korean context they can serve as an effective training tool when used critically. Though not a perfect solution, this approach is more realistic than repeating shallow or distorted preaching. It aims to support healthier biblical interpretation and strengthen the proclamation of God’s Word in Korean churches.
