This study explores how the occupational image of conference interpreters is constructed through media representation and how it corresponds to the perception structure of the general public. Employing a sequential mixed-methods design, the study analyzes framing patterns in twelve YouTube videos featuring active conference interpreters, followed by a public survey using a validated measurement instrument. Thematic analysis revealed six representational themes through which YouTube simultaneously idealizes interpreters as highly trained professionals while simplifying their expertise to foreign language proficiency and foregrounding visually compelling scenes. Survey results indicated that the public holds an overall positive image of conference interpreters, with professional competence rated highest and realistic working conditions — including income and employment stability — remaining largely unrecognized. Integrating the two sets of findings, the study identifies four correspondence patterns between YouTube's representational strategies and public perception, suggesting that framing mechanisms of selective emphasis and exclusion may operate in the formation of the public's occupational image of interpreters. The study contributes to the literature by extending occupational image research to a general public sample and provides empirical grounding for media strategies aimed at enhancing the social standing of the interpreting profession.
