본 연구는 서핑 참여자의 재참여 의사를 대상으로 참가동기와 개인적 맥락 요인이 재참여 선택에 어떻게 작동하는 지를 설명 중심 분석의 관점에서 규명하였다. 이를 위해 서핑 경험자 180명을 대상으로 이항 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하 고, 평균 효과 분석의 한계를 보완하기 위해 Partial Dependence Plot(PDP)과 SHAP 분석을 보조적으로 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 서핑 재참여 의사는 단일 동기의 선형적 증가로 설명되기보다 심리·정서적 동기의 평균적 중요성과 동기 요인 의 비선형 반응 가능성, 그리고 개인별 이질성이 결합된 선택 구조를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 심리·정서적 동기는 평균적 으로 유의한 영향을 보였으며, 신체·건강 및 사회적 동기는 일부 참여자에게서 조건적으로 작동하였다. 본 연구는 서핑 재참여 의사를 평균 중심 분석에 한정하지 않고, 비선형성과 개인별 차이를 함께 고려한 설명적 분석 틀을 제시함으로써 해양레저 스포츠 참여 연구의 해석 범위를 확장한다.

This study examines how participation motives and individual contextual factors influence surfers’ intentions to re-participate, adopting an explanatory rather than a predictive analytical approach. Survey data were collected from 180 individuals with prior surfing experience. Binary logistic regression was employed as the primary analytical method, and Partial Dependence Plots (PDP) and SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) analyses were additionally applied to complement the limitations of average-effect estimation. The results indicate that surfing re-participation intention is not adequately explained by a linear increase in a single motive. Instead, it reflects a decision structure shaped by the average importance of psychological–emotional motives, the potential for non-linear responses of motivational factors, and individual-level heterogeneity. Psychological–emotional motives showed a statistically significant average effect, whereas physical–health and social motives operated conditionally for certain participants rather than uniformly across the sample. By moving beyond an average-centered analytical framework and incorporating non-linearity and individual heterogeneity, this study extends the interpretive scope of research on participation behavior in marine leisure sports.
