Dependable Robots for Aging Populations : Integrating Mobility Assistance, Social Companionship, and Health Monitoring

원문정보

초록

With aging populations increasing, the need for technologies that support older adults’ mobility, independence, and well-being is critical. Traditional aids and social robots often address these needs separately, but few offer integrated solutions. This paper introduces the Dependable Robot—a multifunctional system combining a motorized rollator with health sensors and a detachable social robot. The rollator features AI-powered gait recognition, motorized wheels for safe movement, and vital sign monitoring via its handles. The social robot, Bang Bang, offers companionship, navigation, health feedback, and caregiver connectivity to promote engagement and security. Together, these components create a trustworthy partner for seniors, delivering physical, social, and informational support. Framing dependability through both technical reliability and relational trust, the paper advances eldercare robotics by promoting models that allow older adults to age with dignity, autonomy, and improved quality of life.
