본 논문은 퇴계 이황(退溪 李滉, 1501∼1570)의 『자성록(自省錄)』에 나타난 공부론과 경(敬)의 의미를 분석하여 인간 중심 교육을 위한 유학적 성찰의 현대 교육적 함의를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 퇴계의 공부론은 평생 수양의 과정인 ‘앎·삶·됨’을 중심으로 진정성 있는 학문 추구, 내면의 성숙, 일상에서의 실천을 강조하는 것이 특징이다. 특히 퇴계의 ‘위기지학’은 외적 명예보다 내면의 성숙과 인격 완성을 중시하며, ‘입지’는 학문의 방향 설정과 공부의 시작이자 실천의 출발점으로써 올바른 삶을 위한 뜻 세움이 된다. ‘궁리’는 이치를 깊이 탐구하여 도덕적 실천으로 이어지는 자기 수양의 과정이며, ‘경’은 이러한 공부의 전 과정을 관통하는 공부의 원리로 마음을 바르게 하여 일상에서 도덕적 실천을 가능하게 한다. 본 연구는 『자성록』에 나타난 공부론과 ‘경’을 중심으로 사람다움의 공부를 삶의 수양으로 제시하며, 결과 중심 교육의 한계를 극복하고 인간 중심 교육의 본질을 회복하는 데 의의를 둔다.

This paper aims to analyze the theory of gongfu and the meaning of Gyeong(敬) as presented in 『Jaseongnok(自省錄)󰡕 by Toegye Yi Hwang(1501–1570), and to considering its implications for contemporary education through a Confucian reflection for human-centered education. Toegye's theory of learning emphasizes the pursuit of genuine scholarship, inner maturity, and daily practice centered on the lifelong cultivation process of ‘Knowing·Living·Becoming’. In particular, Toegye's ‘learning for oneself’ emphasizes inner maturity and the perfection of character over external honor, while ‘Firm resolve’ is understood as setting the direction of scholarship, the beginning of study, and the starting point for practice—the act of establishing one's purpose for a righteous life. ‘Gungri’ is the process of self-cultivation that involves deeply exploring principles to lead to moral practice, while ‘Gyeong’ is the fundamental study that encompass this entire process, properly the mind to enable moral practice in daily life. This study presents the gongfu of saramdaum centered on gongfu theory and ‘Gyeong’ in the 『Jaseongnok』 as a self-cultivation of life, and is meaningful in overcoming the limitations of results-based education and restoring the essence of human-centered education.
