From Hype to Reality : Temporal Patterns in Tech Product Sentiment After Initial Launch

Understanding the dynamic changes in consumer responses after a product launch is essential for effective customer relationship management. While prior studies explored online consumer feedback, few have systematically examined the temporal evolution of consumer emotions and topical focus in product reviews. This study tracks sentiment and topical shifts in consumer reviews of newly launched computer-related devices, using natural language processing on comments from 100 product-review videos. Sentiment peaked within two days, declined steadily through day 14, and stabilized after a minor rebound. Meanwhile, discussion topics shifted from initial enthusiasm to problem-solving and critical evaluation. These emotional and topical transitions were further interpreted through the lens of Expectancy-Disconfirmation Theory (EDT), revealing how evolving consumer expectations shape post-launch sentiment. By integrating sentiment dynamics with topic evolution, the study provides a structured framework for tracking post-launch behavior and contributes to both theoretical understanding and brand management practices.
