본 연구는 중국 여성 미술작가 5인의 예술적 실천을 통한 자아 탐색 경험을 현상학적으로 탐구함으로써, 미술이 개인의 내면을 성찰하고 치유하는 과정으로 작용할 수 있음을 재확인하는 데 있다. 연구 결과는 21개의 전환된 의미 단위와 8개의 하위요인, 그리고 ‘자아 탐색의 시작’, ‘자아 탐색 과정의 변화’, ‘미래의 방향성’이라는 3개의 주제가 도출되었다. 자아 탐색은 내적 결핍이나 질문에서 출발하며, 창작활동을 통해 자아에 대한 인식과 정체성 의 층위가 점진적으로 변화하는 과정을 보였다. 이 과정은 단순한 표현을 넘어, 작가 개인의 생애 맥락과 감정적 기억, 젠더적 위치성과도 밀접히 연결되어 있었다. 또한 참여자들은 예술을 통해 삶의 방향성과 존재의 의미를 재구성하며, 미래를 향한 주체적 태도를 형성해 나갔다. 연구 결과는 여성 예술가들의 예술 행위가 단지 결과물 창출을 넘어, 자아에 대한 이해와 삶의 재해석을 가능하게 하는 실존적 과정임을 보여준다. 이는 미술교육 및 미술치료 분야에서 여성 창작자의 경험을 보다 깊이 이해하는 데 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다.

This study aims to phenomenologically explore the ego-exploration experiences of five Chinese women artists through their artistic practices, reaffirming the therapeutic potential of art as a process of inner reflection and healing. The analysis yielded 21 transformed meaning units, eight sub-categories, and three core themes: "The Beginning of Ego-Exploration," "Changes in the Process of Ego-Exploration," and "Future Orientation." The findings suggest that ego-exploration begins with internal voids or existential questions and unfolds through artistic creation, gradually transforming the artists’ awareness of self and their layers of identity. This process extends beyond simple expression and is deeply connected to the artists' life contexts, emotional memories, and gendered positionalities. Furthermore, the participants reconstructed the direction of their lives and the meaning of existence through art, forming more agentic and future-oriented perspectives. The study reveals that artistic practice for women artists functions not merely as the production of outcomes, but as an existential process that facilitates ego-understanding and reinterpretation of life. These findings provide foundational insights for art education and art therapy, contributing to a deeper understanding of the creative and healing experiences of women artists.
