Innovation serves as a pivotal driver of high-quality development, while share repurchase and cash dividend, as primary methods of corporate profit distribution, have garnered significant attention for their impact on corporate innovation investment. Against this backdrop, this study examines the relationship between share repurchase, cash dividend, and corporate innovation investment in China’s A-share listed companies from 2013 to 2023, adopting a financing constraints perspective. The empirical results reveal three key findings: First, share repurchase significantly promote corporate innovation investment, whereas cash dividend exert a suppressive effect. Second, financing constraints play a significant negative moderating role in this relationship, with the strength of moderation varying across corporations with different levels of financing constraints. Specifically, the adverse moderating effect is more pronounced in corporations facing high financing constraints, while it remains statistically insignificant for those with low financing constraints. These findings provide important theoretical and practical implications for corporations to scientifically design profit distribution policies, thereby achieving a balanced allocation of resources between short-term shareholder returns and long-term innovation-driven growth.

혁신은 고품질 발전의 핵심 동력으로 작용하는 반면, 자사주 매입과 현금 배당은 기업 이익 분배의 주요 수단으로서 혁신 투자에 미치는 영향에 대한 관심이 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이러한 배경 하에 본 연구는 2013 년부터 2023년까지 중국의 A주 주식시장에서 상장기업을 대상으로 자사주 매입, 현금 배당과 혁신 투자 간의 관 계를 자금 제약의 관점에서 분석하였다. 실증 결과는 세 가지 주요 시사점을 제시한다: 첫째, 자사주 매입은 기업 혁신 투자를 유의미하게 촉진하는 반면, 현금 배당은 억제 효과를 보인다. 둘째, 자금 제약은 이 관계에서 부(-)의 조절 효과를 가지며, 그 영향력은 기업의 자금 제약 수준에 따라 상이하게 나타난다. 구체적으로, 높은 자금 제약 을 겪는 기업에서는 부정적 조절 효과가 두드러지게 관측되지만, 자금 제약이 낮은 기업에서는 통계적으로 유의미 하지 않다. 이러한 연구 결과는 기업이 단기 주주 수익과 장기 혁신 성장 간의 자원 배분 균형을 달성하기 위해 과학적인 이익 분배 정책을 설계하는 데 중요한 이론적·실무적 시사점을 제공한다.
