In the context of the global transition to a green and low-carbon economy, China has set targets for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, which requires the active participation of the financial industry, especially the support of commercial banks through green credit. This study aims to reveal the impact of green credit and its growth cycle on the profitability of Chinese commercial banks. This study conducts an empirical analysis using a sample of 18 listed Chinese commercial banks engaged in green credit business from 2008 to 2021. The empirical analysis results are as follows: Firstly, it is found that green credit has a significant positive impact on the profitability of Chinese commercial banks. Secondly, use 2017 as the benchmark to categorize green credit into the introduction and growth stages, indicating that the analysis shows that green credit has a greater positive impact on the profitability of Chinese commercial banks in the growth stage. These findings provide important references for policymakers and banks. The government and financial institutions should improve green credit policies, incentivize bank participation, and reduce risks. State-owned commercial banks should assume social responsibilities and promote the development of green finance.

전세계가 탄소중립 경제체제로 전환하고 있으며, 중국도 이에 맞춰 2060년까지 탄소중립 목표를 선언하였는 데, 이를 달성하기 위해서는 중국상업은행의 녹색신용대출을 통한 지원이 필요하다. 본 연구는 녹색신용대출과 녹색신용 발전단계에 따라 중국상업은행의 수익성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구는 2008년부터 2021년까지 녹색신용대출업무를 취급하는 18개 상장한 중국상업은행을 대상으로 실증 분석을 진행하였다. 주요분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 녹색신용대출은 중국상업은행의 수익성에 긍정적인 영 향을 미치는 것으로 확인된다. 둘째, 녹색신용대출을 2017년을 기준으로 도입기와 성장기로 나누어 분석한 결 과, 성장기에 녹색신용대출이 중국상업은행의 수익성에 미치는 긍정적인 영향이 더 커진 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 정부와 금융기관이 녹색신용정책을 더욱 완비하고 은행의 참여를 독려하여 리스크를 줄일 필 요가 있음을 보여준다. 특히 국유상업은행은 더욱 사회적책임을 갖고 녹색금융의 발전을 추진하여 자원의 배분 을 최적화하고 자산품질을 제고하여 수익성을 제고해야 함을 시사한다.
