While many studies found links between SNS use and its effect on Mental health, there is still discrepancy throughout the many years of research. Therefore, there remains a significant gap in understanding the complex relationship between SNS usage and mental well-being. Studies also show that cultural background emerged as a factor that influences perception and behavior on SNS use, particularly focusing on the culture dimension individualism and collectivism. The following study connects these two aspects. The following study aims to examine the impact of SNS use on depression and anxiety in Germany and Korea. Factors such as number of SNS, time spent on SNS, SNS use intensity and usage pattern, network size, social comparison and fear of missing out (FoMO) are examined. Additionally, the study explores the mediating effects of selfesteem and loneliness as well as depression/anxiety symptoms on the relationship between SNS usage and mental well-being. The study employs an online survey method targeting students in both countries, aiming to uncover insights into how cultural backgrounds shape SNS usage patterns and impact mental well-being. Findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between SNS use, cultural dimensions, and mental health, informing interventions tailored to diverse cultural contexts.
