이 연구는 출생 월별 선수 등록 데이터를 활용하여, 선수들의 중도 이탈률을 분석하고 상대연령효과와 선수 이탈 간의 관계를 규명하는 것이 목적이다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 2017년부터 2022년까지의 선수 등록 데이터를 활용하 여, 축구, 야구, 배구, 농구 선수를 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 기초통계, χ² 검증, 스피어먼의 등위 차 상관계수를 활용하 여 상대연령효과 검증과 선수들의 중도 이탈 패턴을 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남자 축구 선수, 남자 야구 선수, 남자 농구 선수, 여자 배구 선수, 여자 농구 선수에서 상대연령효과를 확인하였다. 둘째, 상대연령효과에 따른 중도 이탈 패턴을 탐색한 결과 남자 축구 선수, 남자 야구 선수, 남자 농구 선수 집단에서 출생 월이 빠른 선수들이 경력을 지속하는 경향이 더 높은 것으로 나타나 상대연령효과의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 여자 선수들에게서 는 상대연령효과가 중도 이탈 패턴에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이 연구의 결과는 상대연령효과에 대한 심도 깊은 분석을 통해 스포츠에서의 공정한 경쟁 환경 조성과 선수 개발에 중요한 기여를 하였다고 판단된다.

This study aims to analyze the dropout rates of athletes and elucidate the relationship between relative age effects and athlete dropout using monthly birth registration data. To achieve this, athlete registration data from 2017 to 2022 were utilized, selecting soccer, baseball, volleyball, and basketball players as the subjects of study. Basic statistics, chi-square tests, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient were employed to verify the relative age effect and explore the dropout patterns of athletes. The results are as follows: First, the relative age effect was confirmed in male soccer players, male baseball players, male basketball players, female volleyball players, and female basketball players. Second, an exploration of the dropout patterns according to the relative age effect showed that in male groups of soccer, baseball, and basketball players, those born earlier in the year tend to continue their careers, indicating they are influenced by the relative age effect. Conversely, the relative age effect did not significantly impact the dropout patterns among female players. The findings of this study contribute significantly to creating a fair competitive environment in sports and to athlete development through an in-depth analysis of the relative age effect.
