Jeju Island is home to 381 Oreums. Oreums are important not only as a representative feature of Jeju’s culture and environment but also for the economy as popular hiking destinations for locals and tourists alike. Despite the importance of Oreums for Jeju, limited analysis exists regarding the volume of visitation and popularity of each Oreum. This study uses time series analysis techniques (including smoothing, trend analysis, seasonality analysis and forecasting) to identify Oreum visitation patterns over a period of time. Using data from Jeju Data Hub, the average floating population is calculated to determine popularity for each Oreum. Then the Oreums are ranked accordingly. The study also explores the factors that may be influencing the popularity of the Oreums including location, accessibility, tourism infrastructure, marketing and cultural significance. The results of this research can be used to inform tourism development and management strategies in Jeju Island related to sustainable tourism promotion, local community support, and protection of the natural and cultural heritage of specific locations.
