본 연구는 요부 근막통증증후군 20대 직장인 36명을 무작위로 두 그룹으로 나누어 에센셜 오일과 캐리어 오일이 요부 통증 및 관절가동성에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실시하였다. 피부마사지는 약 3㎖의 오일을 덜어 요 추 부위에 전체적으로 도포하였고, 일주일에 3회, 6주간 실시하였다. 에센셜 오일은 세가지 오일을 호호바 오일에 블랜딩하여 사용하였고, 캐리어 오일은 호호바 오일을 단독으로 사용하였다. 실험 전･후 검사에서 시각 통증 상사 척도, 압통 역치, 요추의 가동성에서 두 그룹 모두 유의적인 효과가 있었고 그룹간에서도 유의한 효과가 있었다 (p<.05). 따라서 요통 치료방법으로 에센셜 오일과 캐리어 오일 피부마사지는 적극 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대되 며, 보완･대체요법으로도 활용될 수 있다고 판단된다.

In this study, 36 office workers in their 20s with lumbar myofascial pain syndrome were randomly divided into two groups to investigate the effects of essential oils and carrier oils on lumbar pain and joint range of motion. For skin massage, about 3 ml of oil was applied to the entire lumbar region, and was performed three times a week for 6 weeks. Essential oils were used by blending three oils with jojoba oil, and jojoba oil was used alone as a carrier oil. In the pre- and post-experiment tests, both groups had significant effects on the VAS(visual analogue scale), pain pressure threshold, and range of motion of the lumbar spine, and there were also significant effects between groups(p<.05). Therefore, it is expected that essential oil and carrier oil skin massage can be actively used as a treatment method for back pain, and it is judged that it can be used as a complementary or alternative therapy.
