이 논문은 야마다 에이미의 연애소설에 여성 주체의 섹슈얼리티와 젠더의식이 어떻게 드러났는가를 짚고 섹슈얼리티와 젠더 문제를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 그녀의 연애소설은 전시대의 피해의식과 달리 주체적 여성의 관점에서 여성이 겪는 성의 다양성과 복잡성, 그리고 가부장제에서 배제되었던 여성 주체의 섹슈얼리티와 젠더의식 등, 사회 전반의 문제들을 다양한 방식으로 발신하였다. 그녀의 연애소설은 여성의 성이나 육체, 인종(흑인), 동성애, 불륜 등의 논란이 많은 화제를 작품 속에서 다루며 여성들의 내면적 경험과 육체적 체험을 통해 대변해 왔다. 특히 그녀의 초기작품들은 그동안 금기시되었던 영역의 성(性)을 대담하고 노골적으로 묘사하며 여성도 성적 욕망을 추구하는 주체이자 행위자임을 피력했다. 이처럼 그녀는 여성의 관점에서 오랫동안 독자적인 성욕보다 낳는 성으로서의 생식 기능에만 강조된 여성의 섹슈얼리티의 탈환을 천착했다. 야마다 에이미의 문학은 기본적으로 이러한 문제의식에서 출발했다고 볼 수 있다. 여기에서 눈여겨볼 점은 기존의 페미니즘 문학 작품이 남성중심의 성문화와 사회적 제도 및 모순을 남녀 대결구조로 이해하고 해결하려고 했다면, 야마다 에이미는 그것을 인간문제로 인식하고 있다는 것이다. 그녀가 그리는 섹슈얼리티의 세계는 종래의 제도나 가치관의 해체로부터 출발하면서도 남성에 대한 반감과 거부로 구성된 세계가 아닌, 남성과의 공존을 통해 서로의 다양성이 인정되는 세계라는 점이, 기존의 페미니즘 문학과 차별화된다고 생각한다.

This thesis examines how the female subject's sexuality and gender consciousness are revealed in Yamada Eimi's love novels, and examines the issues of sexuality and gender. Unlike the sense of victimization of the past, her love novels communicated issues throughout society in various ways, such as the diversity and complexity of sexuality experienced by women from the perspective of subjective women, and the sexuality and gender consciousness of women subjects excluded from patriarchy. Her novels have represented controversial topics such as female sexuality, body, race (black), homosexuality, and infidelity through women's internal and physical experiences. In particular, her early works boldly and explicitly portrayed sexuality in an area that had been taboo so far, and expressed that women were also subjects and actors pursuing sexual desire. As such, she pursued the recapture of women's sexuality, which had long been emphasized only on the reproductive function as the sex that gives birth rather than independent sexual desire from a woman's point of view. Yamada Eimi's literature can be said to have basically started from this critical mind. What is noteworthy is that while existing feminist literature tried to understand and solve male-centered sexual culture, social institutions, and contradictions with a structure of confrontation between men and women, Yamada Eimi recognizes them as human problems. She draws the world of sexuality is different from existing feminist literature in that it is a world in which mutual diversity is recognized through coexistence with men, rather than a world composed of antipathy and rejection of men, starting from the dismantling of conventional institutions and values. it is differentiated in this study.
