CCD나 CMOS 카메라로 획득된 영상은 노이즈에 의한 밝기 변화가 항상 발생하며, 이러한 변화는 다양한 원인으로 부터 생겨날 수 있다. 전통적인 노이즈 제거 방법은 밝기 변화에 대한 근본적인 특성을 고려하지 않고 경계선을 유지 하도록 고려하면서 주변 픽셀과의 가중치의 합으로 계산된다. 본 논문에서는 근본적인 영상 노이즈를 고려하여 촬영 된 장면의 방사 조도에 가까운 실제 밝기를 추정하는 확률적 방법을 제안한다. 주어진 밝기와 노이즈와의 관계를 통 해서 제안된 모델은 밝기 차이의 통계치기반 사후확률을 최대화하여 노이즈가 줄어든 밝기를 계산한다. 기존 방법에 서 주로 사용되는, 주변 픽셀은 유사한 컬러를 갖는다는 전통적인 가정 대신에 영상 노이즈에 의한 밝기 변화 분포는 실제 밝기에서 가장 높은 확률을 갖는다는 사실을 이용하였다. 대상 픽셀과 주변 픽셀의 확률적인 영향력을 계산함으 로써 대상 픽셀에 대해 반복적으로 확률을 최대화하면서 실제 밝기에 가까워질 수 있다. 다양한 실험에 의해서 제안 된 방법은 밝기와 노이즈 사이의 확률적 선험정보를 이용해서 노이즈가 제거된 영상을 복원한다는 것을 보였다.

Images captured by CCD or CMOS cameras cannot escape from unexpectable intensity variation, which is caused by image noise from various sources. Conventional denoising approaches, even if they are designed as an edge-preserved way, just compute the weighted sum of neighborhood pixels without consideration of intrinsic characteristics of intensity variation. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic model to estimate true intensity close to scene irradiance free from intrinsic image noise. Given the relationship between intensity and noise, the proposed model computes noise-reduced intensity by maximizing a posteriori with statistics of intensity difference. Instead of conventional assumption of that neighborhood pixels have almost similar colors, we employ the fact that the distribution of intensity variation by intrinsic image noise has the highest probability at true intensity. When a reference pixel is supported by sufficient other pixels, estimated intensity can be close to true intensity by maximizing the probability, iteratively. By various experiments, the proposed method is validated to restore the image of which noise is reduced using probabilistic priors between intensity and noise.
