해방직후 신의주는 일제에 의해서 만들어진 신흥도시로서 새로운 종교인 기독교를 중심으로 시 민사회가 형성되었다. 이런 입장을 대변하는 인물이 이유필과 한경직이었다고 본다. 해방 직후 일 본은 한경직에게 치안을 부탁하였고, 한경직은 이유필을 위원장으로 하는 신의주자치위원회를 조 직하였다. 신의주의 기독교민족주의자들은 임시정부를 봉대하여 새로운 민주국가를 건설하고자 하였다. 하지만 이들의 이런 생각은 결국 소련군의 진주와 함께 사라지고 말았다. 소련은 이 지역의 소수 파인 공산주의를 내세워서 민족주의자들을 억압하였고, 결국에 가서는 인민정치위원회를 만들어 서 신의주와 평북사회를 장악하고 말았다. 이런 상황에서 신의주의 민족주의자들은 사회민주당을 만들어서 좌익을 견제하려고 했으나 결 국 소련군과 공산당은 이들을 탄압하여 기독교민족주의자들은 월남하지 않을 수 없었고, 이들은 미 연합군사령부에 북한 문제에 대해서 관심을 기울여 달라는 청원서를 제출하였다. 우리는 위와 같은 연구를 통해서 첫째, 해방 후 신의주의 기독교인들은 민주주의에 기초한 새 로운 나라를 꿈꾸었으며, 둘째, 평북에 설립된 인민정치위원회는 소련군의 계획에 의해서 소수의 공산주의자들이 만든 것이며, 셋째, 신의주의 기독교지도자들은 월남하여 연합군 사령관에게 북한 문제를 다루어 줄 것을 요청하였다는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

Shortly after liberation, Sinuiju was an emerging city powered by Japanese imperialism, and civil society was formed around Christianity, a newly introduced religion to Korea. It is believed that the figures representing this environment were Yu-Pil Lee and Kyung-Jik Han. Immediately after the liberation, Japan asked Kyung-Jik Han to be in charge of policing, and Kyung-Jik Han organized the Shinuiju Self-governing Committee, chaired by Yu-Pil Lee. Christian nationalists of Sinuiju sought to build a new democratic state by mobilizing the Provisional Government in Chungching. However, these ideas eventually disappeared with the Soviet occupation. The Soviet Union oppressed the nationalists by promoting communism, a minority in the region, and eventually formed a People's Political Committee to dominate the societies of Sinuiju city and Pyeonbuk province. In this situation, the Christian nationalists of Sinuiju attempted to form the Social Democratic Party to counter the left wing; however, the Soviet Union and the Communist Party persecuted them, and the Christian nationalists were forced to leave to South Korea in the end. They filed a petition with US Allied Command to call attention to the problems of North Korea. The followings can be confirmed based on these studies. Firstly, Sinuiju Christians dreamed of a new country based on democracy after liberation. Secondly, the People's Political Committee, which was established in Pyeongbuk, was organized by a few Communists under the Soviet military plan. Thirdly, Christian leaders of Sinuiju left North Korea to South Korea and asked the Allied Commander to deal with the problems of North Korea.
