이 글의 목적은 중세 한국어의 부사 ‘ ’ 의 의미를 분석하는 것이다. 그 결과, 이 연구에서는 ‘ ’ 의 의미를 다음과 같이 파악할 수 있었다. ∙과거의 국면이 현재의 국면으로 지속될 때 쓰이는 부사 ∙지속되는 현재의 국면이 예상과는 다를 때 쓰이는 부사 ‘ ’ 의 위와 같은 의미는 [아직] 및 [오히려]와 유사하다. 이로 인해 기존 연구에 서는 ‘ ’ 를 [아직] 혹은 [오히려]로 번역하였다. 그리고 ‘ ’ 를 [아직] 혹은 [오히 려]로 둘다 해석하는 것이 가능한 예문이 있었다. 이에 대해 이 글에서는 [아직]과 [오 히려] 둘다 [예상과 다르다]라는 의미를 가지고 있기 때문에 발생한 것으로 보았다. 더불어 ‘ ’ 가 [아직], [오히려]로 번역하기에 다소 어색한 예문들이 발견되었다. 이에 대해서는 한문 원문을 바탕으로 ‘ ’ 를 의역할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning of ‘(sanjai)’ in the middle Korean languege. As a result, we could present the interpretation direction of ‘(sanjai)’, which is somewhat different from the existing study. ∙Adverbs used when past phases lead to the current phase ∙Adverbs used when the lasting phase is not as expected The meaning of ‘(sanjai)’ is similar to [yet] and [rather than]. For this reason, many existing studies have translated ‘(sanjai)’ as [yet] or [rather than]. And there was an example that could interpret both ‘(sanjai)’ as [yet] or [rather than]. In this article, I argued that this is because both [yet] and [rather than] have the meaning [unexpected]. In addition, some examples have been found for the translation of ‘’(sanjai) to [yet] and [rather than]. In this regard, based on the original text of Chinese, it suggested a way to paraphrase ‘(sanjai)’.
