이 연구는 태권도 경기에서 자유품새가 지닌 철학적 의미를 고찰하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 공인품새의 철학적 의미 는 태권도 교본에서 제시하고 있듯이 품새에 담긴 사상적 의미를 자세하게 제시하고 있다. 그러나 자유품새에 대해서는 경기방식과 경기규칙을 언급하고 있을 뿐 자유품새에 대한 철학적 의미는 정립되지 않은 채 경기로서 진행되고 있는 실정 이다. 그러므로 자유품새가 지니고 있는 철학적 가치를 존재론, 인식론, 가치론이라고 하는 철학의 연구 영역에서 그 의미 를 고찰하였다. 자유품새의 존재론적 의미는 적당한 시간과 공간 속에서 바른 자세와 호흡 조절로 심신이 조화로운 상태에 서 자유로이 태권도 기술을 펼칠 수 있는 달인의 경지를 말한다. 자유품새의 인식론적 의미는 태권도 기술이 안무와 음악으 로 조화된 방법과 술, 예, 도의 단계적 절차를 통해 이른 예술의 경지를 말한다. 자유품새의 가치론적 의미는 연출력과 기술력에 의한 미적 체험으로서 운동미인 형식미를 지닌다. 또한 창조미, 리듬미, 조화미, 숭고미, 고결미라고 하는 심미적 가치를 지닌다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the philosophical meaning of free poomsae in Taekwondo competition. The philosophical meaning of the certified poomsae presents the ideological meaning of the poomsae in detail, as suggested in the Taekwondo textbook. However, the free poomsae refers to the mode of play and the rules of the game, and the philosophical meaning of free poomsae is not being established. Therefore, the meaning of the philosophical value of free poomsae was studied in the field of philosophy of ontology, epistemology and value theory. The ontological meaning of free poomsae is the state of master who can freely develop taekwondo skills in a state of harmony of mind and body with proper posture and breathing control in appropriate time and space. The epistemological meaning of liberal poomsae refers to the state of the arts through the method of Taekwondo techniques harmonized with choreography and music and through the step-by-step process of Technique, Art, and Tao. The value theory of free poomsae has a formal beauty which is a movement beauty as an aesthetic experience based on annual output and technology. It also has an aesthetic value of creation, rhythm, harmony, sublime and purity.
