이 논문은 국어학계나 일반인들이 어원에 대해 어떠한 인식을 가지고 있으며, 이러 한 인식에 따라 어원 연구가 진행되어 온 역사를 기술하였다. 그리고 어원 및 어휘 역 사를 연구하기 위한 과학적 방법을 제시하였다. 또한 어원사전 및 어휘 역사사전을 편찬하기 위한 준비 자세와 태도, 그리고 그 편찬과정을 기술, 설명하였다.

This paper describes the history of Korean linguistics and the people who have some knowledge about the etymology and how the study of etymology has been conducted according to this perception. And the scientific method of studying the etymology and vocabulary history. We also describe the preparation attitude and attitude of compiling the etymology dictionary and vocabulary history dictionary, and the compilation process.
