이 연구는 日帝强占期에 태어나 일본식 교육을 받으면서 문학인이 된 金南天(1911-1953?), 그의 소설, 『大河』를 체육문화 및 체육사상적으로 검토한 것이다. 『大河』는 日帝强占期 중 民族抹殺統治期에 해당하는 1939년 1월에 출 판된 모랄-풍속론의 家族史小說이다. 그런데 이 작품은 당시 세태와 비교한 결과 다음과 같은 3가지 특이사항을 찾을 수 있었다. 첫째, 『大河』는 체육문화에 있어서 민족전통의 것은 부정적으로, 외세(서양-일본)의 스포츠는 긍정적으로 평가하고 있다. 둘째, 『大河』는 운동회 등에서 행하는 주요한 독립의식 행위를 그리지 않았다. 즉, 민족정서에 대해 침묵 혹은 의도적으로 삭제하였다. 이는 반쪽만 그린 풍속묘사이다. 따라서 『大河』는 半世態小說이다. 셋째, 『大河』의 체육 문화 등에 대한 시공간적 오류는 당시대를 非獨立.非反日의 世態로 견인하는 愚(無民族精神 志向)를 범하고 있다.

This study is about the novel Daeha (大河; A Big River) of Nam-Cheon Kim(1911-1953?). Kim is a literary man of the Japanese Colonial Period. His novel, Daeha, is a novel of the Japanese Colonial Period. Daeha is a novel of manners published in January 1939. This literary work is a novel about family history. This period (1939) was the time for Japan to annihilate the national spirit of Joseon. Therefore, this study confirms Kim's novel, Daeha's hidden idea. The results of this study are as follows. First, Kim(Daeha) viewed Korean traditional - sports as negative. However, Kim(Daeha) was positively evaluating new sports (western or Japanese sports). Second, Kim(Daeha) erased the patriotic spirit that was at the time of the athletic event. In other words, Kim(Daeha) silence about the emotion of the nation. It was also intentionally deleted. Therefore, Daeha is a novel of manners which is only half-written. Therefore, Daeha is not really a novel of manners. Third, Daeha is mistaken in time and space, which is a record of exercise culture. This makes the mistake of nullifying the spirit of independence and anti-Japaneseism. Thus, Kim(Daeha) was aiming at a non-nationalism.
