In recent decades, some managerial researchers have focused on international new ventures, or as they are often called, Born globals(BGs). Knight et al.(2004) attribute the dramatic increase in global business activity and the flourishing of BGs to the emergence of advanced technologies and to the increase in global infrastructures. Innovation is critical in high-tech industries, where firms face greater uncertainty and competition for new product share. In the dynamic capabilities perspective, firms need to continuously build, integrate, and reconfigure their skills and abilities to adapt to their environment and sustain competitive advantage. The most important capabilities in the area of innovation are expoitation and exploration. This study investigates the role of innovative capabilities in the relevant but understudied context of Born Globals. This paper aimed to investigate the innovation process of Chinese Born Globals through the role of exploitative and explorative capabilities in two ways: 1) how exploitative and explorative capabilities are influenced by international entrepreneurial orientation and 2) how those capabilities affect international performance as the outcome of innovation.
