이 글은 통시적 관점에서 시상형태 {-더-}에 대한 기존의 연구 성과들을 쟁점을 위주로 살펴보고 앞으로의 연구 방향을 제시해 보고자 한 것이다. {-더-} 관련 쟁점은 첫째, 중세국어 {-더-}의 의미, 둘째, {-더-}의 비동일주어제약 성립 시기와 원인, 셋째, ‘-더시-’와 ‘-시더-’ 공존형, 넷째, 한글 창제 이전 차자표기 자료에 나타난 {-더-} 관련 차자표기자와 그 독법, 다섯째, ‘-ᄃᆞ-, -드-’ 등 {-더-} 관련 형태 간의 관계 등으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이러한 논의들로부터 앞으로의 {-더-} 관련 연구는 고대국어부터 시작하는 진정한 의미의 통시적 연구가 필요하다는 점, 이러한 통시적 연구를 진행할 때 형태, 기능, 문법화, 분포 등 그 대상 범위가 확대되어야 한다는 점, 대상자료의 확대 또한 필요하다는 점을 제시하였다.

The purpose of the present study lies in examining the fruits of existing research on the tense-aspect form {-deo 더-} from a diachronic perspective with a focus on the points of contention and presenting the direction of future research. The points of contention regarding {-deo-} were examined after being classified into: first, the meaning of {-deo-} in Middle Korean ; second, the time and causes of the establishment of the non-equi-subject constraint on {-deo-}; third, interpretations of the coexisting forms “-deosi 더시-” and “-sideo 시더-”; fourth, {-deo-}-related Chinese characters used to transcribe Korean in materials on the transcription of Korean using Chinese characters from before the creation of Han’geul 한글(1443; proclaimed in 1446) and their readings; and, fifth, the relationships among {-deo-}-related forms including “-dʌ ᄃᆞ-” and “-deu 드-.” From such discussions, the following points were derived: future studies on {-deo-} must be diachronic research in the true sense of the word, starting from Old Korean ; in conducting such diachronic research, the scope of the topics examined such as form, function, grammaticalization, and distribution must be expanded; and the materials examined likewise must be expanded.
