본 논문은 성가대, 아니면 찬양 팀으로 나누어진 현대 한국교회안의 갈등구조 속에서 찬양 팀보다는 성가대를 중심으로 한 예배에서의 기능적 역할과 갱신을 다루고 있다. 개인경험주의에 밀려버린 교회 공동체를 회복하는 수단으로서 성가대가 성만찬예전, 시편노래의 개발과 활용, 그리고 칸토의 역할을 주도하며 단순하면서도 창조적인 예배의 표현 및 예배예술의 정립을 구성하기를 안내하고 있다. 또한 성가대를 통한 사회적 윤리 및 책임을 다루며, 더 나아가 교회력에 따른 교회예식 및 가정예식을 통한 예배영성을 감당하는 한국교회음악의 방향성을 소개한다.

The contemporary Korean church music faces a split dichotomy between praise music and classical music. They are not in conversation with one another. The recent colloquium held by the Church Music Research Society of Korea raises an important question, "Choir or Praise Team?" This study rather focuses on the choir, its role, and method of participating in liturgical worship are proposed in light of the Korean church context. It attempts to define the choir as the center of liturgical renewal and restoration of an authentic community in communion, singing of Psalms, and cantoral leadership of the congregational singing. Aesthetic value and spirituality of the choral music in church year and lectionary based liturgy are discussed as a direction for the future development of the Korean church music.
