본 연구는 한국 사회적기업의 발전과정과 현황 그리고 사례에 관한 연구이다. 한국 사회적기업은 정부의 제도적 육성과 자생적인 민간의 노력을 통하여 발전하여 왔는데, 2007년 사회적기업육성법이 제정된 후 정부의 지원에 대한 법적 근거가 마련되고 급격히 기업의 수가 증가하였다. 2007년 50개에 이르던 인증 사회적기업의 수는 2015년 기준 으로 1400개가 넘고 있고, 이들 기업이 고용한 취약계층 근로자의 수는 18000명을 넘는 것으로 집계되고 있다. 이렇 게 많은 발전과 파급효과를 가져온 사회적기업은 크게 목적에 따라 일자리 제공형, 사회서비스 제공형, 혼합형, 지역 사회 공헌형, 기타형으로 유형을 구분하고 지배구조에 따라 추가적으로 유형 구분하면서, 각 유형에 따른 시업운영사 례를 제시하여 사회적기업에 대한 이해를 제고하고자 하였다. 마지막으로 한국 사회적기업에 현안과 이슈에 대한 논의와 함께 향후 발전방향을 모색할 것이다.

This study investigated history, trends, and development of Korean social enterprises. Korean social enterprises have grown based on Korean government's systematic support and private sectors' autonomous effort. Since 1997 when the legislation of the 'social enterprise law,' there has been dramatic increases in the number of social enterprises in Korea. Starting with 50 social enterprises in 2007, more than 1400 social enterprises have been founded and operated and 18000 workers have been employed by 2015. In Korea, social enterprises have been categorized to be 5 different types: Job, social service, hybrid, community contribution, and others. In addition, social enterprises might be categorized based on governance structures. Given various types of social enterprised, the current investigation enhanced our understanding of social enterprises while providing cases and examples of successful social enterprises operated in Korea.
