A Study on a Heroine's Figure(像) Shown in Kajeni Tsurenaki : Focusing on the Stout-hearted Woman who Pursues Happiness by Herself
The heroine's figure in Monogatari of the Middle Kingdom is thought to introduce precedent Monogatari's figures to it and at the same time, be described as a strong and stouthearted Himegimi by changing her image according to changes of the times. This paper studied a heroine's figure shown in a story, Kajeni Tsurenaki by reviewing toughness of the heroine who keeps taking steps toward her goals being close to her elder sister and being single and the point that she becomes Nyoin as a role in being a mother of an emperor based on the independent Himegimi's image shown in it. Himegimi, the heroine of this work of art finally gets to be faced with being a person like an orphan as she lost her mother as soon as she was born, Junggung who is her elder sister passed away, and his father who is Gwanbaek became a Buddhist. However, she overcomes her unhappy situation bravely, rejects her marriage, and becomes Nyoin by insisting on the single person. And she refuses to receive men's passionate love for her to the end by keeping her father's discipline, brings up Wakamiya that late Gungjung who is her elder sister left, and keeps taking steps toward her goals during life. This point is thought to occur because changes of the times and society have an effect on creation of the characters in each story. Especially, in case of Himegimi in this work of art, a women by the name of Fujiwhara, not the princess is a feature of becoming Nyoin being single without being an empress' position. The loftiest post of honor that a heroin gets in Monogatari literature is thought to be Nyoin. The point that Himegimi becames Nyoin keeping taking steps toward her goals was an attempt that she tried to save and help many women who had to live their lives that they did not want because of the relationships with men, isn't it? This story is thought that a new Nyoin's figure is presented by developing the stout-hearted Nyoin who lives alone. Therefore, the point that Himegimi of the Monogataris in the Middle Kingdom is described as the stouthearted woman who pursues happiness by herself not relying on men with her enthusiastic character to start love first can be one of the different characteristics from Monogatari in the Heian period.
