과거 법성진은 3면이 바다로 둘러싸인 반도로서 조창시설과 수군진이 설치되기에 최적의 장소였다. 이 때문에 하동문(下東門)이 육지에서 접근하는 기능적인 정문이었으며, 남문은 해로에서 접근하는 상징적인 정문이었다. 이에 남문은 1915년 소유자나 지형의 형태 등을 종합해 볼 때 453번지로 추정되며, 옹성(甕城) 때문에 도로가 꺾인 것으로 보인다. 하동문은 1915년 소유자와 ‘비각거리’라는 지명에 의한 161번지 주변으로 추정된다. 객사는 284번지, 동헌 232번지 주변으로 추정되며 이 사이의 대지에서 부속시설이 위치했던 것으로 보인다. 이러한 배치형태는 1872년 지도와 유사하다. 객사는 법성진의 전체적인 상징성이 우선한 배치이며, 동헌은 부속시설과 객사를 연결하는 위치이면서 모든 시설이 조망되는 위치에 있어 기능성이 우선한 배치로 볼 수 있다.

In the past, Beopsungjin(法聖鎭) was a peninsula surrounded by the sea on three sides, and it was the best place for the installation of a jochang(漕倉) and a naval base(水軍鎭). For this reason, Hadongmun(下東門) was a functional front gate approaching from the land, and the south gate was a symbolic front gate approaching from the sea. In 1915 a land registration map, the south gate was estimated to be 453(street no.) in terms of the owner and terrain type, and the road seems to have been broken due to Ong-seong(甕城). Hadongmun(下東門) is estimated to be around 161(street no.) in 1915 map by its owner and the name of 'bi-gag-geo-li(strret of memorial stone)'. Gaeg-sa(客舍) are estimated to be around 284 and Dong-heon(東軒) in 232, and it seems that the facilities were located between them. This arrangement is similar to the 1872 map. The Gaeg-sa(客舍) is the arrangement in which the overall symbolism of the Beopsungjin(法聖鎭), and the Dong-heon(東軒) is the location where the attached buildings is connected to the Gaeg-sa(客舍), and the function is prioritized in the position where all attached buildings are overlooked.
