Wikipedia the free online encyclopedia is one of the most visited open collaboration site on the internet. Its success is due to the collaboration of thousands of volunteer motivation and commitment to contribute contents. In this paper, we study the editor’s commitment and its effect on the promotion of articles to a featured article status. To measure the commitment of editors we use self-loop editing of editors. We distinguish self-loop into short and long self-loops. Our results are based on the cox regression model to assess the effect of self-loop editing (commitment) on the promotion of articles. We find that self-loop editing positively affect the promotion of an article, we further state and distinguish long self-loop from short-self loop. Long self-loop editing is more helpful than short self-loop editing. Theoretical and managerial implication are provided.
