The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean conceptualization of thinking(hereafter ) with respect to the thesis of embodied cognition, which emphasizes bodily groundedness and social situatedness in conceptualization. To do this, this paper examined whether the mappings for and the image schematic extensions of the conceptual metaphors of thinking are found, which characteristics they have, and whether and how physical organs are utilized in . Physical groundedness of Korean was revealed in three ways: Korean shows diverse mappings of the thinking metaphors; The metaphors combine productively with image schemata; Korean also exploits physical organs in . Socio-cultural situatedness of Korean was identified in the metaphors of thinking and in its exploitation of physical organs: Korean characteristics of eating and farming are reflected in the thinking metaphors and cultural specificity of is shown in the cultural metaphor of ; Korean uses two physical organs in , head and heart, which shows that Korean considers some types of thinking as having the characteristics of the feeling.
