본 연구는 광주지역의 도시공간구조 변화에 제2순환도로의 영향력을 알아보고자 한 것이다. 제2순환도로의 착공시점과 완공 이후의 시점으로 구분하여 각 시기의 도시공간구조를 비교분석하였다. 또한 순수한 순환도로의 영향력에 대한 분석을 위하여 완공 이후 시점과 완공 이후 시점의 도시공간에서 제2순환도로만 제거하여 비교분석하였다. 건축도시공간구조의 인간행태적 속성을 정량적이고 객관적인 분석 도구 중 하나인 공간구문론을 활용하였다. 분석결과, 광주지역 도시공간구조의 중심성은 제1순환도로 중심(동구)에서 광산구 및 서구 지역으로 이동되었다. 또한 제2순환도로의 공간적 위상이 높아져 외곽지역의 중심성이 높아졌다. 하지만 제2순환도로 중심으로 동측 지역은 상대적으로 다른 외곽지역에 비해 중심성이 낮은 것으로 보아 제2순환도로로 인한 중심성의 확장은 도시전체에 영향을 미치지는 못한 것으로 드러났다. 본 연구는 광주광역시의 도시공간구조 차원에서 전체 도시의 변화 양상과 순환도로로의 역할을 타당성을 타진해볼 수 있었다는 데 큰 의의가 있다. 하지만 도시에 미치는 영향은 도시공간구조 뿐만 아니라 다른 요인들도 있기 때문에 추후 종합적인 연구가 필요하다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the 2nd ring road on the changes in the urban spatial structure of Gwangju. A comparative analysis was undertaken on the urban spatial structure before and after the completion of the 2nd ring road. In addition, in order to analyze the influence of just the ring road, the urban structure after the completion of the road was compared including and excluding the 2nd ring road. Space Syntax, a method for quantitatively and objectively measuring the human behavioral properties of architectural and urban space, was used to analyze the urban structure. The results of this study showed that the centrality of spatial structure of Gwangju shifted from the 1st ring road (located in the eastern section) to Gwangsan district and Seo district. Additionally, there was in increase in the spatial status of the 2nd ring road, as well as the centrality of the outer regions. However, the centrality of the eastern area of the 2nd ring road was relatively lower than that of the other outer regions, meaning that the extension of this centrality did not affect the entire city. The significance of this study lies in its examination of the validity of the role of ring roads to the changes of the city at the level of the urban spatial structure. However, because there are various factors influencing the city other than its urban spatial structure, a more comprehensive study is needed.
