The most notable of the land system of the Joseon Dynasty is the difference about the nature of the land. That is, the nature of the land is state-owned or private indeed. With respect to the issue, some conclusions can be drawn through the differences between registered land and folk-land and the function of registered land investigation. It can be considered that private land did exist in that period. Land ownership and possession of land had experienced a series of changes during the Joseon Dynasty, which followed with the change of the emphasis of the exchange value of land. Through the study of some codes providing land ownership at that time, the legal basis of the properties of the land of state-owned and private can be found out. The land investigation project during the Japanese colonial rule just made confirmation on the land, rather than breaking up the state-owned land or confirming the private property in land for the first time. The research trends on the land system of the Joseon Dynasty has the model significance to China in which land nationalization is adopted to some extent.
