Effect of 12weeks' Aquatic exercise program on Health related fitness and ROM of upper-body in Elderly women
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of aquatic exercise program on physique, health related fitness and ROM of upper-body in elderly women. 25 elderly women participated as a subject and they all executed 90 min's aquatic exercise including warm-up and cool-down, and the frequency of 3 times a week during 12 weeks. And they performed 40 min's aqua walking and 30 min's aquarobics at an intensity of heart rate reserve 40∼70% as a main exercise. Collected data were statistically analyzed using paired t-test and the results were as follows. First, there were significant decreases in body weight and BMI(p< .05). Second, there were significant enhancements in muscular strength, balance, flexibility and dynamic balance(p< .05). Third, there were significant increases in ROM of shoulder, neck and trunk(p< .05). In conclusion, it suggests that aquatic exercise could be a safe and effective exercise mode to enhance health in elderly women.
