본 연구에서는 총독부 관사의 특징을 잘 나타내는 충청남도 관사촌의 특징을 고찰함으로서 1930년대 총독부 관사의 건축계획적 특징을 밝혀내고자 한다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 충청남도 관사촌의 관사들은 규모로 보아 주임관사 4, 5급으로 추정되며, 속복도 형식과 응접실 설치 등을 통해 당시 고위급 공무원의 생활 양식(공사 영역의 구분, 고용인 공간과 주인 공간의 분리, 온돌의 적용 등)이 잘 나타나고 있다. 둘째, 충청남도 관사촌은 표준화된 평면을 단독주택 형식으로 단지화하는 수법을 읽을 수 있는데, 충남남도 지사관사를 중심으로 서고동저의 지형적 특성내에서 개별관사를 규모와 이용자의 위계에 따라 지형, 도로와 출입구, 그리고 향에 따라 배치하고 있다. 셋째, 표준형 평면을 적용하여, 관사로서의 응접과 사적공간을 구분하는 표준형 평면이 적용되었다. 넷째, 입단면 구성은 전체적으로 붉은벽돌에 의한 화란식 쌓기(和蘭式組積, dutch bond)로 되어 있으며, 돌출창호를 위해 콘크리트 캔틸레버 빔 사용, 화란식 쌓기를 통한 벽돌 장식쌓기, 굴뚝의 수직적 요소 등 근대시기 화양절충식의 건축 디자인적 형식을 보여주고 있다.

The purposes of this study are to verify the architectural design characteristics of Chungcheongnam-do Gwansachon(official residences) which were built after relocation of Chungcheongnam-do Province at 1932. We reviewed national historical documents and surveyed the buildings in the viewpoint of official class and transitional properties of Western and Japanese housing styles to Korea. The results of this research are as follows ; First, the types of Chungcheongnam-do Gwansachon were built for 4,5th grade Juim(superviser) and has housing size regulations. Second, the standard prototypes were allocated at T-shape road and have horizontally long and sloped housing lots. Third, the housings are divided into semi-public(reception or guest room) and private space(living, bedroom, kitchen and etc) and have center corridor type, the southwards contains living, bedroom and the northwards contains porch, kitchen, servant room, toilets, and etc. Fourth, the Chungcheongnam-do Gwansachon are characterized according dutch style red brick, round reception room and windows and horizontal cantilevered beam above windows. Chungcheongnam-do Gwansachon shows transitional properties of Western and Japanese housing styles to Korea.
