본 연구의 목적은 건축적 재현의 근원에 관한 물음, 즉 건축이란 존재는 어디서부터 오게 되었는가, 그래서 그 근원적 동인은 어떤 보편적 진리에 기초하고 있는가를 밝혀내고자 함이다. 이러한 맥락에서, 알바 알토는 건축적 삼위일체라는 종교적 이해를 자신의 건축에서 표현하였는데, 이에 대한 고찰이 이 연구의 목적이다. 결론적으로, 알토의 그러한 종교적 이해의 건축적 적용은 그의 여러 작품에서 분명하게 파악될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 비푸리 도서관에서는 자연의 천장 빛을 통해 본질상 하나의 존재를 나타내었다. 빌라 마이레아에서는 직선과 곡선을 통해 ‘빈 공간’을 생성하였고, 이를 통해 인간의 삶을 풍요롭게 하는 공간을 생성하였다. 여기서 중요한 것은 그 존재는 시간, 공간, 빛이라는 각기 다른 존재이나 하나의 존재로 나타나며, 더욱이 알바 알토는 그러한 사상을 바탕으로 신성적 의미와 그의 인간애를 표현하였다는 사실이다.

The purpose of study is to quest the origin of architectural representation, that is, from where comes the existence of architecture, then ultimately to reveal what universal truth is based on the fundamental cause. In this regard, Alvar Aalto expresses his religious understanding of the trinity in his architecture, which is the aim of this research. To conclude, that Aalto’s architectural application by his religious perception is comprehended in his several works. In Viipuri library, for example, is expressed essentially the existence as one with the natural light of ceiling. In Villa Mairea, generates ‘space in between’ with the straight and curve lines, through which creates the space that makes human’s life enrich. Importantly here is that the existence is appeared as one even though they are different existences of time, space, light, furthermore, based on these concepts Alvar Aalto expresses his love for human as well as the meanings of divinity.
