이 논문에서는 국어의 어휘 및 어휘사를 중심으로 (1) 어휘사의 연구영역, (2) 어휘의 분류, (3) 종래 어휘사의 기술 방법, (4) 어휘사의 연구 방법 등을 다루고 있다. 어휘의 변화는 어휘의 생성, 어휘의 형태 의미의 변화, 어휘의 소멸을 의미한다. 어휘사를 기술하기 위해서는 어휘 조사, 개별 어휘의 역사적 연구, 개별 어휘 간 관계 기술 등을 행해야 한다. 이 논문에서는 기존의 연구 영역이나 어휘사 연구 방법을 살펴보고 이에 더하여 어휘 및 어휘사에 대한 보다 새로운 연구 영역과 연구 방법 등을 제안하는 한편 향후 국어 어휘사 연구의 발전을 위해 고려해야 할 점들을 제시하였다.

This paper illustrates several topics concerning the history of the Korean vocabulary such as (1) Research Field of Vocabulary History, (2) The Classification of the vocabulary, (3) the Conventional Methodof description of the Vocabulary History, and (4) A Method of the Study on the Korean Vocabulary History. Changes in vocabulary involve the generation of the words, changes of forms and meaning and the disappearance of words. In order to describe the history of words properly, we should focus on (1) vocabulary research, (2) a historical study of individual word, and (3) describing the relationship among words.
