The purpose of this study is to suggest directions towards an efficient, specialized training method to trainers by searching for a training method that regards the individual features of Poomsae for the development of domestic/international Taekwondo Poomsae competitions and the enhancement of the athletic performance of Poomsae athletes. In order to fulfill the purpose of this study, qualitative case analysis was implemented on 8 members of the national team of Taekwondo Poomsae and 3 trainers. First, training methods based on the scoring criteria of basic moves are by individual practice of each scoring criteria based on a sturdy standing movement through exercising one’s lower body. Second, training methods based on the scoring criteria of each Poomsae’s detailed movements are by accurately understanding the movements and repetitive practice based on the basic moves. Third, training methods based on the scoring criteria of balance are by strength training such as enduring kicks whilst holding the wall, enduring crane stance, mountain climbing, squatting, balance pads, wobble boards, locker boards, etc. Fourth, training methods based on the scoring criteria of speed and strength are by accurately acknowledging one’s body conditions and expressing adequate movements while enhancing the stability of the standing move through strength exercises and training to increase the speed of stabbing, blocking, kicking, etc. movements. Fifth, training methods based on the scoring criteria of harmony are by being taught by trainers how to tune movement and breathing, orient the degree of the body. Sixth, the expression of spirit, Ki(氣), must be obtained through self-esteem and confidence based on the athlete’s practicing process. Seventh, the national team training for Poomsae, held in 2013 at Taebaek athlete’s village for the first time, was significant since the training methods were planned by coaching staff comprised of Poomsae experts; it is notable that this involved enhancing strength by using equipment, rather than the conventional repetitive-practice-based training. Overall, if trainers should refer to the opinions of the trainers and national team members in this study and adapt the features of each studio or school while mutually supplement the training plans of the Taebaek athlete’s village, they shall be able to suggest efficient training methods to enhance athletic performance.
