구술 자료만을 이용한 서사 작업에 대해 회의적 시각이 적지 않은 것이 현실에서 본고는 구술자료만으로 해외 민주인사들의 민주화운동에 관한 역사서술을 시도하고자 한다. 거기에다 인문지리적 시각을 적용하여 새로운 역사적 층위으로서 공간 역사에 대한 시론적 모색을 더했다. 첫째로 다루는 내용은 한국 민주화운동의 지리적 스케일이다. 해외 민주인사의 구술에서 나타난 지리적 스케일에 관한 인식이 한국의 지리적 공간에 국한되지 않고 세계의 여러 장소를 포함한 것이었음을 밝혀준다. 그리고 일본, 미국, 유럽 등에서 물적‧정신적‧사회적 성격의 지원과 참여를 이끌어 내었다는 점에서 한국 민주화운동의 지리적 스케일은 세계적이었음을 확인해 준다. 둘째로 해외 민주화운동의 지리적 스케일이 세계적이란 점을 더욱 공고히 하는 관점으로서 공간조직의 형성이 있었고, 기능지역의 작동이 있었다고 논의된다. 해외민주인사들은 그런 공간생산과 함께 공간조직을 지역마다 만들어내고 그 전체를 묶어 작동하는 국제 규모의 공간조직을 만들어내었다는 사실과 그들은 그 안에서 공간적 실천을 함으로써 한국과 일본, 북미와 유럽이 하나의 기능지역으로 작동하도록 하였다는 사실이 기술된다. 끝으로 다음의 사실을 언급하는 것으로 이글이 마무리된다. 구술자료만으로 쓰여지는 역사가 낯설게 보이지만 그 이론적 근거가 다양하게 제시되고 있다는 이유에서 그리고 그 주변 학문의 이론들을 적용함으로써 구술사가 보여주는 역사 세계는 미시사의 세계를 더욱 풍성히 해 주는 것이 될 것이다.

A research to narrate a history is still doubted. In this situation this paper try to describe a history of the Korean Oversea Pro-democracy Movement by the democratic figures living abroad, making full use oral-documents. Besides it seeks to an introductory history as a new historical layer in related to space history applied to a aspect of anthropogeography. Firstly this paper deals with a geographical scale of the Korean Oversea Pro-democracy Movement. It is worldwide that the democratic figures who live abroad narrate their geographical acknowledge in participating pro-democratic movement overseas. It also elucidates that the geographical scale of the Korean Oversea Pro-democracy Movement was worldwide in causing Japanese, North American, and European Churches or International organizations to support and join in the Korean Oversea Pro-democracy Movement, materially, mentally, and socially. Secondly, consolidating that a geographical scale of the Korean Oversea Pro-democracy Movement was worldwide, this paper discusses the democratic figures living abroad made spatial organization with creating space. And it delineates they raised working functional region, doing practice in it. Lastly, this paper is finished saying this. A Oral History written by the oral documents only seems like unfamiliar. However A historical world showed by the oral history will bear more abundant fruits in describing micro-historical worlds.
