이 글의 목적은 고등학교에서의 고대국어 교육의 현황과 문제를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 우선 고대국어와 관련한 기본적인 문제들을 검토하고 이를 바탕으로 현행 고등학교 교과서에 나타난 문제들을 논의하였다. 우선 고대라는 용어의 타당성 여부를 검토하고 고대국어가 포괄하는 범위에 대한 논의를 하였다. 학계의 관행과 현실적인 유용성을 고려하여 고대라는 용어는 그대로 사용하되 필요에 따라 좀더 가변적이고 유동적인 시대 구분이 필요함을 논의하였다. 다음으로 고대국어의 자료를 시기별로 나누어 검토해야 한다는 문제를 제기하였다. 이에 대한 예시로 고대국어 인명 표기의 예로 가장 많이 다루어져 왔던 ‘異次頓’의 이표기에 대한 문제를 살펴보았다. 고등학교에서의 고대국어 교육에 대해서는 우선 교육과정상의 국어사 교육 관련 내용들을 검토한 후 실제 교과서에서 문제가 되는 내용들을 뽑아 논의하였다. 우선 국어의 계통과 형성에 관한 내용은 대부분의 교과서들이 7차 교과서의 것을 그대로 베끼다시피 했음을 밝히고 이에 대한 기술상의 보완이 필요함을 말하였다. 다음으로 고대국어의 자료를 향가를 다룰 때 그제시 방식과 해독의 문제와 관련하여 교과서의 문제점들을 구체적인 실례를 통해 논의하였다. 또한 차자 표기 교육에 있어서의 문제도 살펴보았다.

The purpose of this article is to look at the status and problems of education about the ancient Korean in high school. First, the basic issues associated with the ancient Korean and the issues shown in the current high school textbooks were discussed. The validity of the ancient term were examined and a range that covers the ancient Korean were discussed. Considering the practical usefulness of academic practices, the ancient term will be used. But variable and flexible periodization is required. I raised the issue that we need to examine the materials of the ancient Korean divided by the time. For example, I looked at the problem of ‘異次頓’ representation. Examining curriculum on education related content for education of the ancient languages in high school, and then the problems in textbooks are discussed.
