IEMG Analysis of Cross Jump in Balance Beam

The purpose of this study was to investigate IEMG (integrated electromyography) of Cross Jump in Balance Beam for giving national female gymnasts information. Six national female gymnasts experienced over five years participated in this study, and they were divided into two groups(dominant vs. non-dominant group). Six digital cameras (Sony DSR PD-170) were used to capture motions for three dimensional analyses, and eight electrodes were attached to their thighs and shanks to record muscle activation of movements from hip joint, knee joint and ankle joint. The results were as follows: First, subjects made the most of vastus lateralis, agonist, which is mainly play a role in extensor of knee joint in both groups at landing stepping foot(p1). Second, they made the most of gastrocnemius medialis, agonist, which is mainly play a role in plantar flexor of ankle joint, and flexor of knee joint at p2, p3, and p4. Third, the members of dominant group activated tibialis anterior as agonist of ankle joint flexor, and also, they did vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and gastrocnemius medialis as agonist of knee joint extensor in order at landing phase(p5). Despite of no difference on muscle activation between dominant and non-dominant group, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and gastrocnemius medialis were activated in order at landing phase(p5). These findings suggested that members of non-dominant group reinforced vastus lateralis and gastrocnemius medialis with training to perform efficient cross jump at landing.
