본 연구는 건축 예술에 있어 근대성의 근원에 대한 그 같은 끊임없는 의문에 관한 것이고, 특히 독일 표현주의에 주목한 것이다. 비록 표현주의에 대한 상대적 평가절하의 경향은 실제 건축역사비평가들로부터 기인된 것이었지만, 분명, 표현주의는 바우하우스의 형성에는 물론 근대성의 창조-예술의 형성에 중요한 영향을 준 간과할 수 없는 ‘정신적’ 사조이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 세 가지 주제들을 중심으로, 즉, 서로 불가분의 관계에 있는 오리엔탈리즘(Orientalism), 유니버설리즘(Universalism), 그리고 프뢰벨리안리즘(Froebelianism)을 중심으로 이 주제를 다룰 것이다. 여기서 주목할 것은, 이러한 대상들 모두에게서 나타나는 보편적 종교철학은 범신론(Pantheism)이 아니라 범재신론(Panentheism)의 특성을 지닌 것으로, 궁극적으로, 이에 대한 고찰을 통해 근대성의 ‘창조성’예술에 대한 보다 깊은 이해를 구하고자 한다. 여기에서, 이 둘을 구별하는 것은 매우 중요한데, 왜냐하면 범신론으로 근대 아방가르드 예술가들의 사상을 포함하는 20세기 새로운 종교사상의 흐름과 그 특징을 파악하기 어렵기 때문이다.

This study is as to such incessant inquiries on sources of modernity in building art, particularly, focuses on German Expressionism. Although a tendency of relative devaluation was caused by architectural historians, undoubtedly, the Expressionism was an important ‘spiritual’ ism that cannot be ignored as an important which influenced the formation of creativity-art of modernity as well as of Bauhaus. Thus, this study treats it in central these three issues; Orientalism, Universalism, and Froebelianism, which are intimate. Importantly here, through a research on the universal religious philosophy in all three objects, as keeping a quality not of Pantheism but of Panentheism, this study deepens the understanding on the Creativity-art of modernity. Here, it is very important to draw a distinction between the two, because, through the pantheism, it is difficult to comprehend a stream and a characteristic of the twentieth new religious thoughts including those of modern avant-garde artists.
