The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze physical fitness level of national decathlon(4) and male modern pentathlon(3) players. Through the above, this study intends to comprehend physical characteristics according to the events. And the result of study is as follows. Both decathlon and modern pentathlon players showed no significant difference in lung capacity, FVC (% forced expiratory volume in one second) and FEV1/VC percentage. Especially, the result was not statistically significant in the FEV1/VC percentage(%), but decathlon players were comparatively higher. When stabilized, heart rate of modern pentathlon players was significantly low with 66times per minute comparing to decathlon players with 72.3 times per minute, both but modern pentathlon and decathlon players showed no statistical significant difference in the overall physical fitness factors. Decathlon players were significantly ahead of modern pentathlon players only in the sargent jump (vertical jump) which is a factor of quickness as 75.3cm versus 65.7cm. In conclusion, both decathlon and modern pentathlon players marked similar results without huge difference in the physique and overall physical fitness in the way that the games are a coed one. However, decathlon players turned out to be superior to modern pentathlon players in the muscular strength (back strength, bench press, squat etc.) including sargent jump which is a quickness factor as well as in the anaerobic endurance and muscular power.
