The purpose of this paper is to apply a multi-level semantic analysis to causal and concessive conjunctive structures and to show the advantages of this approach over the previous semantic accounts of them. It is argued that this multi-level semantic approach brings more insights than conventional semantic accounts, not only by incorporating polysemous status and pragmatic ambiguities into the semantic account, but also by providing a more realistic analysis of the meanings of causal and concessive conjunctions. An actual application of this approach to the Korean causal conjunctive suffixes, -(e)se and -(u)nikka is provided in the latter part of this paper. The semantic analysis of these two Korean conjunctives reveals that the previous discrete categorization attempts have caused some confusion regarding these categories and that we need a more flexible categorization in order to deal with them.
