The Meaning of Physical Educational Philosophy in the Yangsaeng Thought of Laotzu

Specific nurturing method in Taoism which seeks perpetual youth, is Yangsaeng (taking care of health) thought. In the perspective of physical educational philosophy, its meaning is not in specific methods of taking care of health but in the philosophical basis of Yangsaeng, the relationship between mind and body and the esthetic view on physical action. Although the term of Yangsaeng was not used specifically until the era of Chuangtzu, its origin is laid upon philosophy of Laotzu. Therefore, the insight on the Yangsaeng thought of Laotzuis regarded as a major subject in physical educational philosophy. This study looks into precise contents of the Yangsaeng thought of Laotzu, and tries to draw the components of physical educational philosophy, embedded inside. Also, it pursues to reveal what physical educational philosophy is meant in the Yangsaeng thought of Laotzu. Today our society has problems of school violence and stresses. Through physical educational philosophy appearing in the Yangsaeng thought of Laotzu, therefore, this paper aims to provide solutions for relieving people’s violence and stresses.
