이 논문은 고대국어부터 근대국어까지 명령형 종결어미의 변화에 대한 연구 성과와 아직 남아 있는 쟁점들을 정리하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지금 까지 많은 학자들이 청자높임법에 대한 통시적 연구나 종결어미에 대한 통 시적 연구 등에서 명령형 종결어미를 다루어 왔으며, 이 과정에서 많은 사실 들이 밝혀졌다. 차자표기 자료를 통해 확인할 수 있는 고대국어와 전기중세 국어의 어미들을 살펴보면, 고대국어 이래로 안높임 등급의 명령형 어미 ‘- 라’의 형태와 기능에는 별다른 변화가 없었고, 높임 등급의 명령형 종결어미 ‘-쇼셔’도 전기중세국어 이래로 근대국어에 이르기까지 그다지 큰 변화가 없음을 알 수 있다. 그에 비해 중간 등급의 경우는 ‘-아쎠’의 소멸, ‘-소’와 ‘-오’, ‘-게’의 새로운 등장 등 후기중세국어와 근대국어 시기에 상당한 변화가 일어 났다. 여기에서는 기존의 연구 성과들을 바탕으로 고대국어와 중세국어, 근 대국어의 명령형 종결어미 체계와 변화를 정리하고, 몇몇 명령형 종결어미 의 기원이나 의미 기능을 둘러싼 쟁점들을 살펴보도록 한다.

This paper is focusing on the historical change of the imperative final-endings in Korean language. The imperative final-ending of the plain level ‘-ra’ has not been changed since ancient Korean. ‘-shosheo’, the imperative final-ending of the polite level also has not been changed so much from the 15th century to modern Korean. However, there were considerable changes in the imperative final-endings of the middle level; extinction(-assheo), formation(-so, -ge, -o), alteration of function(-psio, -sipsio), etc. Even though many scholars have been researched the imperative final-endings from ancient Korean to contemporary Korean and have achieved much result, there still remain many questions about the imperative final-endings. In this paper, I will show the academic achievement and the points at issue of this field, which include the possibility of analyzing ‘-shosheo’ and ‘-assheo’, the function of ‘-gora’ and the origin of final-endings(‘-ge’, ‘-so’, ‘-o’).
