이 연구는 1916년에 작성된 당시 금강사의 허가 관련 문서를 통하여 당시 금강사의 본당 및 요사 건축물의 배치, 입면, 평면 등에서 나타나는 건축적 특성을 현존 건축물과 대비하여 분석하였고 당시 문서에서 나타나는 허가와 보완 등의 행정적 절차와 관련된 부분을 분석할 수 있었다. 창건 초기의 동국사는 현재의 동국사와 비교하여 전체 사찰의 경내 면적과 앞마당의 높이, 진입 방식 등에서 많은 차이를 나타내고 있다. 또한 본당과 요사 건축물 역시 지붕 형태를 포함한 건축물의 전체 형태와 평면, 공간구성 등이 현존 건축물과는 완전히 다른 건축물임을 알 수 있었다.

This study aims to identify the buildings of Dongguksa Temple in Gunsan, during the Founding Era. Dongguksa Temple in Gunsan was first established in 1909 and moved to the present site in 1913. At that time, the main building and dormitory were built for the first time. But no records of those buildings had been found until the document, related to the administrative permission of establishing temple, was discovered. This study tried to describe the exact image of those buildings by the analysis of that document, and to identify the architectural characteristics by the comparison of those buildings with the present buildings. Additionally, this study tried to reconstruct the actual process of the administrative permission of establishing temple, at that time.
