This study aims to identify what SCM (supply chain management) activities are more effective than others for enhancing SCM competitiveness. Based on literature review on SCM activities and their effects on performance measures, 8 SCM activity categories are identified and detailed to encompass the SCM practices in manufacturing industries. Overall implementation level of downstream SCM process activities appears to be higher than that of upstream activities. However, the upstream SCM activities such as Purchasing and Acquisition Management, Product Development Management and Production Flow Management outperform the downstream activities in improving SCM performances.
