Learning Effects of InternalㆍExternal Focus Feedback and Instruction on GateBall Stroke Task of an Older Person
The purpose of this study was to examine differential learning effects of internal and external focus. The task was gate ball stroke and the subjects were thirty older-persons(over 60 years old). There were three groups consisting of ten persons in each group. The three groups were internal focus group, external-focus group, and control group. Gate ball stroke scores (accuracy score) were recorded. For the acquisition phase, those scores were analyzed in a 3 (group) × 5 (block) ANCOVA with repeated measures on the last factor. The retention scores were analyzed in a 3 (group) × 2 (block) ANCOVA with repeated measures on the last factor. The results of this study that the external-focus and internal-focus group was more effective for improving the gate ball stroke score in the acquisition phase, than control group. In addition, the external-focus was the most effective for learning the gate ball stroke task, compared with the internal-focus and control group. In conclusion, the analysis of gate ball stroke scores showed that statements of external-focus was more effective than that of internal-focus.
