최근 활발히 논의되고 있는 서민주거 연구에 대한 폭넓은 시각을 제공하기 위해 본 연구는 대표적인 서민주거 유형으로 정착한 프랑스 사회주거 분야에 주목한다. 특히, 소수 선각자들에 의한 제안이었음에도 불구하고 현재까지 사회주거의 사상적 근간으로 작용할 만큼 영향력이 큰 초창기 사례를 대상으로 한다. 사례들에 나타난 이데올로기적 특징과 건축적, 운영적 실현방안 등의 고찰을 통해 오늘날 사회주거의 기원적 특성을 정의한다. 향후 서민주거 개발에 관련한 가치관을 환기하고 방향설정을 위한 참고자료로서 연구 의의가 있다. 각 사례별 특징에 따라 분석관점을 달리하였고 비교를 통한 종합적인 이해를 위해 공통 기준표에 따른 분류도 적용하였다. 연구대상 사례는 다음과 같다. ; 파랑스테어, 시떼 나폴레옹, 파밀리스테어, 물루즈 노동자 주택단지 이상의 사례들은 공통적으로 박애주의에 입각한 민간의 노력이 사회적 진보를 이끌었다는 차원에서 시사하는 바가 크다.

This research examines the social dwelling of France, which has settled as a representative form of dwelling for commoners, so as to provide a new and wide perspective on developing a dwelling for commoners which is in heated discussion nowadays. In particular, this research focuses on the influential cases in the initial stage of social dwelling development, which act as the ideological foundation of social dwelling even to this day, although it was a proposal of a minority of pioneers. This is a study that defines the ideological characteristics, which are the components of the origin of today’s social dwelling, and suggests implementation strategies in terms of construction and management. The significant of this research is that it will arouse attention to the values related to developing dwelling for commoners and settle the desirable direction. The perspective of analysis differs depending on the characteristics of each form of dwelling, and categorization according to a chart of common standards was conducted to help comprehensive understanding through comparison. The cases covered in the research are as follows. ; Phalanstère, La cité Napoléon, Familistère, La cité du Mulhouse. The above cases share important implications in that civilian efforts based on philanthropy led social progress.
