Due to the fact that context is a complex notion, it often creates the problem of incommensurability among linguisㅅtic groups whose viewpoints on language are completely different from each other. With a view to curing such a problem, this paper sheds lights on a number of different notions of context, and makes an attempt to classify them from different perspectives on context. More concretely, the notions of context will be scrutinized that are framed respectively in Generative Grammar, Cognitive Linguistics, Text Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics. In so doing, a couple of different notions of context will be classified into North American Contextualism and British Contextualism. Under the rubric of this, the current paper provides a comprehensive description of different perspectives on context, in the belief that such a description will yield insights into a variety of notions of context
