본 논문은 21세기 현대 교회가 드리는 찬양경배예배를 보다 심도있게 이해하고 필요한 개선점들을 고찰하였다. 대중 문화의 영향으로 다양해진 예배의 표현방식을 역사적, 신학적으로 검증하고, 예배 현실을 직시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 고전적 예전예배나 개신교적 전통예배 또는 현대 찬양경배예배를 분석하고 특징과 장, 단점을 연구하여 좀 더 올바르고 의미가 있는 미래 예배 문화를 이루는데 의의가 있다. 현재 한국교회 뿐만 아니라 많은 세계 교회가 고민하고 있는 세대간의 견해 차이를 예배의 통합화를 통해 그 차이를 좁히고 앞으로 한국교회가 나아가야 할 예배의 방향을 위해 개선점들을 다루었다. 고전적 예전예배를 통해 교회는 예배에 필요한 중요한 구성요소를 갖추었고, 전통과 역사속에 담긴 많은 신학적, 교리적, 그리고 교육적 표현양식을 통해 예배의 본질적 의미를 이루었다. 반면에 새로운 예배운동이란 맥락에서 찬양과 경배예배는 교회가 더 보편적이고 대중적인 세속문화를 손쉽게 예배안으로 수용할 수 있는 길을 열어 놓았다. 오랜 예배의 역사를 통해 중세교회는 극대화 된 신비주의와 경건주의적 모습으로 띄었고 하나님으로 부터 예배자인 회중을 격리시키는 결과를 가져왔다. 그리고 현대교회의 대중화된 예배는 회중을 다시 교회로 불러 모을 수 있었지만 세대간의 갈등을 극대화시켰다. 따라서 본 논문은 여러 예배학자들의 저서들과 현대 찬양경배 예배의 인도자들이 자신들의 예배경험을 담은 서적들을 통해 예배간의 긍정적인 측면과 개선되어져야 할 부분들을 주의깊게 다루었다. 온 회중이 세대간의 갈등과 차이가 없이 함께 할 수 있는 통합예배를 대안으로 제시하였다. 즉, 고전과 전통, 그리고 현대가 함께 어우러진 예배, ‘조화로운 예배’를 언급하였다. 아울러 이를 위해 모든 교회와 예배인도자들이 자신감과 책임감을 갖고 끊임없이 노력할 것을 당부하고 있다.

Praise and worship which is a common worship in the 21st century modern churches has been understood in depth through this dissertation while examining its areas to improve. The purpose of this work is to historically and theologically verify manners of expression of worship that has been diversified under the influence of popular culture, and to face the reality of the worship. Its significance is in achieving more proper and meaningful worship culture in the future by analyzing classical-liturgical worship, Protestant traditional worship, and modern praise and worship, and also through studying their features, strong and weak points. There were efforts to reduce the gap between the generations which concerned not only the Korean church but also the global church, by integrating the worship. This dissertation has dealt with improvements to be made for the worship so as to suggest a direction for the Korean church to take. Through classical-liturgical worship, the church was equipped with significant elements required for the worship and through theological, doctrinal, and educational manner of expression comprised in tradition and history, it accomplished the essential meaning of the worship. On the other hand, as in connection with the new worship movement, praise and worship made a way for the church to easily receive more universal and popular secular culture. Mysticism and Pietism had reached its peak during the long history of the church of the Middle Ages and as a result it separated worshipers (the congregation) from God. Then the popularized service of the modern church succeeded in bringing back the congregation to the church once again. However, it maximized the discord between the generations. Therefore, this dissertation has carefully dealt with positive aspects of many types of worships, and areas to be improved by examining the writings of several worship scholars and also the writings that mentioned experiences of modern worship leaders. It suggested integrated worship that all congregations could give without having discords or differences between the generations as an alternative plan. That is, it referred to the ‘balanced worship’, the type of which classical, traditional and modern worships are in harmony. Also, it asked all the church and worship leaders to put ceaseless efforts with confidence and sense of responsibility in order to achieve the worship.
