This study is a comprehensive analysis of music therapy case studies written in Korean from 2000 to 2011. The analysis focused on three areas of the research studies：type of research design, topic, and method. The results showed that the first three music therapy case studies were published in 2000 and the number of studies has been increasing over the years. Also, it was found that descriptive studies were more common than interpretative studies among theses and dissertation, while interpretative studies were more frequently used than descriptive studies among journal articles. The analysis of research topic indicated that all the case studies dealt with clinical topics and all the participants in the studies were clients. In addition, most studies were found to include relatively small number of participants. Single case studies were more frequently used than multiple case studies. The results of data analysis showed that case studies with single resource of data were more common than those having various resources. Finally, it was reported that mixed analysis methods were more frequently utilized than either only quantitative or only qualitative data analysis was used.

이 연구는 국내 사례연구가 게재된 시점인 2000년에서 2011년까지 음악치료연구로 발표된 사레연구 결과물을 대상으로 연구 유형, 주제 및 방법 측면의 동향을 고찰함으로써 앞으로 음악치료 사례연구가 나아가야할 방향을 제시하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구결과, 2000년에 처음으로 음악치료 사례연구 석사학위 논문 세 편이 발표된 이후, 사례연구는 매년 지속적으로 증가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학위논문의 경우 해석적 연구보다는 서술적 사례연구가, 학술지에는 서술적 연구보다는 해석적 사례연구의 비중이 더 많은 것으로 보고되었다. 사례연구에서 수행된 연구주제 동향 분석 결과, 모든 사례연구가 임상적 주제만을 다루고 있었으며, 음악치료 사례연구의 참여자는 모두 클라이언트였다. 사례 수 분석 결과, 대부분의 연구가 비교적 적은 수의 참여자를 대상으로 수행되었고 다중사례보다는 단일사례연구가 주를 이루었다. 또한 자료분석 방식에 있어서 풍부한 자료원보다는 한 개의 자료원을 대상으로 사례연구가 많이 진행되고 있었으며 질적분석과 양적분석을 혼합한 혼합분석 방법이 주를 이루고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
